The Richard J. Schmeelk Educational Fund

Dick Schmeelk believed in the power of Catholic education to change children’s lives, and he threw himself into magnifying the impact of schools serving hard-working families. His financial support enabled thousands of children to get an education they might not otherwise have had. But he was far more than a funder; he was a fierce and passionate advocate.

He joined the board of the Endowment for Inner-City Education in the Archdiocese of New York in 1998, and he was instrumental to the team that formed the Partnership Schools—a high-performing Catholic school network. For over two decades, he not only served as the Partnership Board’s secretary and personally supported its work, but he drew out the generosity in others. “That man is a gift,” his friend Bill Finneran said about Dick’s influence on him and the greater philanthropic community.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to please consider a gift to Partnership Schools where Dick served on the Board for many years. Your gift will help establish the Richard J. Schmeelk Educational Fund. You can make your gift above or by mailing a check made payable to Partnership Schools, 1011 First Avenue, Suite 1800, New York, NY 10022 - please indicate Richard J. Schmeelk Education Fund on the check.
